Trig runs Index 2020

Exploring less familiar areas of the New Forest, we aimed to include a visit to all the accessible trig points. It was hard to find distinguishing features at some of the pillar locations, especially on the heathlands.

Route: Out via Linford, Linwood; scenic route, somewhat hilly and some exploring involved; one un-runnable overgrown footpath, one field of cows with fence to climb before gate. Longcross Plain (Bramshaw) 4th Aug 2020 Planned route		Weather: Sun/cloud, chilly wind Actual route Start: 9:15am; Canadian Memorial car park (Bolderwood). Route: Under A31 on road, then Janesmoor Pond, Fritham; missed Standing Oak under-pass on way back Run seemed very hard, despite no steep hills; Garmin stats: 9.5 miles, 1h43m

Yew Tree Heath (Beaulieu) 27th Aug 2020 Planned route		Weather: Cloudy Actual route Start: 9:15am; Standing Hat car park (Brockenhurst). Route: Out via Beaulieu Road station. Good running conditions. Hard work on gravel tracks in inclosures; nice paths across heath, no big hills, but long undulations Garmin stats: 9.6 miles, 1h42m

Nea Croft 01 sep 2020 Burton Common 01 sep 2020		Weather: Sunny, not too warm Planned route Start: 9:15am; Bransgore village hall car park. Route: 2 trigs in one outing; lovely running conditions (having postponed this route a couple of times due to weather). Out to Nea Croft, had to climb over stile into field on Harrow Road, to find pillar leaning into hedge. Then on across Burton Common. We noted an extra trig hidden in the hedge on Hawthorne Road, but it doesn't count, as just outside the National Park. More on road than I prefer; lots of big puddles still on bridleway to Burton; back via small section on Avon Valley footpath Garmin stats: 9.5 miles, 1h44m

West Wellow 22nd Sep 2020 Stagbury Hill (Furzley Common) 22nd Sep 2020		Weather: Sun/cloud Start: 9:15am; Long Cross car park (Bramshaw) Finish: 11am; Roundhill car park (Brook) Route: Another chance to bag 2 trigs in the same run. Pound Bottom (Bramshaw Telegraph) 29th Sep 2020		Weather: Cloudy Start: 9:15am; Janesmoor Pond car park. Route: Good varied route, quite a lot of 'undulations'; some navigation difficulty in woods - paths not obvious. Pillar is just over the fence-line of the county boundary, in Wiltshire. Out via Eyeworth Pond (pretty). Back via Fritham with 'Gunpowder Co' letterbox. Garmin stats: 9 miles, 1h40m

Hill Top (Beaulieu) 6th Oct 2020 Planned route		Weather: Sunny, windy Actual route Start: 9:15am; Pig Bush car park (Hatchet Lane). Drove to Milford for lift with Dawn. Route: Least hilly route yet, but so muddy (very tiring on legs). Lucky with weather, heavy showers held off until afternoon. Garmin stats: 9.6 miles, 1h50m Coffee and cake at 'Steffs Kitchen' in Beaulieu afterwards, to celebrate completing our Trig Point Challenge 2020.
